Belgium is world class in innovation and entrepreneurship in agritech and foodtech. The University of Liege, Ghent University and Flanders’ FOOD are part of the European FoodNexus consortium which features high level companies and academia in Europe. Both universities together with Flanders’ FOOD set up for the first time a local Start-up.

Challenge to recognize and award the most remarkable technological entrepreneurs in agritech and foodtech all over Belgium.

The Belgian start-up challenge will be coordinated by Interface Entreprises-Université (University of Liège) and Food2Know (Ghent University). Based on a first selection by a jury of experts in agrifood, entrepreneurship and finances, the selected Flemish and Walloon start-ups will be invited to pitch (10 minutes each).

These national pitch events will take place on Friday, 13th and Thursday, 26th of October, respectively in Ghent and Gembloux. These preliminary rounds will qualify two start-ups for the European final in the FoodNexus Start-up Challenge, that will take place on December 13th in Wageningen (NL). Themes and criteria for the selection will be the same as those of the European final.

The selected Flemish start-up will be awarded with a free membership of Flanders’ FOOD for the year 2018 and the selected Walloon start-up will be awarded with a free membership of Wagralim for the year 2018 (for start-ups with less than 10 employees). 

Moreover, the Flemish start-ups selected for the pitch session on October, 13th will also get the opportunity to present themselves for an audience of entrepreneurs in the agrifood sector during an ING event on October 26th. Moreover, the same day, the Flemish winner will be announced at the start of the networking reception of that ING event.
